We’re all created with the potential to do great stuff. I help people expand the capacity of their potential & execute on that sh*t in business and entrepreneurship.
I ♥ RUCKUS MAKERS
If you’re a smart and courageous entrepreneur, influencer, owner, creative or maker–I am your biggest fan girl. I believe business and entrepreneurship are THE best paths for not only creating a life and business you can actually live with love–they’re also the best means for creating impact in the world (or, at least your corner of it).I’ve been labeled a business strategist, digital marketer, revenue engineer, data nerd and more. I’m just a curious student of life, audacious entrepreneur and a socially-awkward-alpha girl.
Dig into what I do, with a business and strategy intelligence report I’ve been sending my to clients for a decade: Notes From the Trenches. I share strategic insights, trends, case studies and results of the many scenarios/tests I’m able to run in a range of industries and projects. They’re solid brain pickings from someone who is in the trenches every damn day, actually doing the do with entrepreneurs, influencers, owners, creatives and makers.
The official hoo-rah
Maria’s online journey began 1995 (think AOL and GeoCities), while in college and pregnant with her first child, she began tinkering on the Internet—to create a webpage timeline of her journey into motherhood. Three years and a steep learning curve later, she turned a hobby into a budding web development business in Southern Oregon.
In 1998, she decided to forever turn her back on cubicles and punching clocks, to grow her business and give entrepreneurship a solid go. One of the original, award-winning blogs “The WebSuccessDiva” was born. Along the way Maria built a team of work everywhere from anywhere online ninjas. With the help of their awesomeness, Maria has personally invested 17k hours (and counting) into helping business owners, creatives, and entrepreneurs build profitable businesses online.
Since 2000 Maria has been the business and digital strategy mastermind behind turning one of the pioneers in the green beauty industry into an global success and multi-million dollar company–later facilitating their division into two innovative, leading natural beauty lines. Both are still recognized as top brands in the industry and continue their innovative growth trajectories. As the lead digital strategist for an award-winning Imago Therapy team, Maria saw the online education trend (before it was cool, a decade ago) and helped them become the first relationship experts to take interactive, digital education from the counselors office into the digital world. With over 300+ successful client stories, Maria is known as a practitioner in the trenches of the real world.
Maria has been named a Top 50 Social Media Diva (twice), one of the Most Valuable Female Brands online, a Top 50 Social Media Pro woman, a top 100 Marketing Pros to Follow, a Top 20 Social Media Pro to follow, a HubSpot Certified Marketer and seen on Mashable, Trafficked, Moz, Webside Chats, 3 business books and 2 personal development books.
The numbers since 2006 (and counting btw):
- 300 ruckus makers served
- 418 apps, websites and digital platforms built
- $52.4 million in revenues
- 182.7 million sessions
- 114.3 million users/followers
- 241.6 million interactions
- and counting…
Too much information
I’m a life long learner with 3 degrees (1) Business (2) Economics (3) MBA and (*) Certificate Applied Finance and Economics. I’m also one of the founding graduates of the Churchill Honors Scholar Program. I plan to pursue a PhD (or two…).
I read a lot (depending on workload) between 5 to 10 books a month, mostly non-fiction and anything having to do with business, entrepreneurship, mindfulness, or one of the many -ology disciplines. I am a student of life, human behavior and the future of technology.
I’m an extreme introvert with extrovert tendencies, in some cases. I work from a home office, by choice, and find peace in solitude… unless I’m teaching and preaching business. That’s the beauty of entrepreneurship, you can build around what matters most to you (wink).
In the past I’ve been a drug dealer, pimp, club/venue promoter, Vegas-style flair bartender, roller derby girl, self-taught coder/developer…
Today I dabble in Mixed Martial Arts (my spirit fighters are Conor McGregor and Jonny Bones Jones), heavy lifting (I’m clearing 61.235 kilos on bench, 185.97 kilos on leg press, 102.05 kilos on squats and dead lift) and Spartan Races.
I ♥ my two pit bulls (Reginald and Dr. Dre), one napoleon-ish terrier (Einstein), one slider back turtle (Maximus) and one female African tortoise (Herbert). If I could, I would open an animal sanctuary.
I live in sunny Los Angeles and have 3 amazing humans I’ve been blessed to steward: Bobby (21), Gabby (20) and Little Man (17).
Many people are surprised during our initial meeting. I’m 6′ (a legit 6’2″ // 6’3″ with good heels) and introvert AF, it’s the quiet ones you have to worry about 😉.
Don’t judge me, my favorite comfort food is: 1 slice pineapple, 1 slice cranberry, 1 scoop cottage cheese, a dollop of mayonnaise, sprinkles of paprika.
I listen to gangsta rap to write, create or when I’m analyzing data. I listen to gospel when I’m winding down from a hectic day, rock and heavy metal when I’m working out or training, and classical music when I’m reading. Spotify is aaaawesome.
I’m a Jesus freak and don’t care who knows. Tell you what, I’ll respect your beliefs (or lack there of) if you’ll respect mine. Can’t we all just get along 🙏🏾✌🏾

Milestones and Timeline
While in college, built a Geocities (Yahoo Geocities) webpage to share my journey as a new mother. Meaning a black webpage with white letters and images that did not float 😜!
Built first 2 websites (4 webpages each) for Business Dept. and Churchill Honors, for a fee. Realized the potential to support myself as a single mother, purchased business cards and built my own webpage (an about/pricing page).
Built 24 websites for local businesses across the US. Discovered Six Degrees, very briefly. Expanded business offerings to include email marketing (although no takers until about 1999/2000).
Web development business was booming, including email marketing, Google Adwords (discovered cost-per-click and immediately recognized value for businesses). Total websites built, with addition of two team members: 71.
Web business continued to grow, including team of 6 people, including email marketing, Google Adwords, and search marketing. Discovered Friendster, MySpace, LinkedIn, Facebook (initially The Facebook) and B2 Cafelog. Started blogging as a personal journal.
Web business continued to grow, with the addition of blogging for business (news and updates format), and a roster of over 60 clients. Launched first business blog, Web Success Diva and discovered Twitter and the newly forked WordPress platform. Began to seriously explore the idea of blogging/social as a viable business branding/marketing asset.
Transformed web development business into full-service, boutique agency offering branding, blogging, community/social marketing, design and website development, online advertising and SEM/SEO. Client roster included small and mid-size businesses and non-profits, expanding through North America.
Brought in new leadership and extensive project management capabilities, become Chief Digital Strategist and silent partner to work on passion projects, including Director of Digital Strategy for Marie Veronique Organics. Helped transform MVOrganics from six-figure pioneer to multiple seven-figure global leader WITHOUT a single dollar spent on advertising or outside funding.
Shake up at Marie Veronique Organics, requiring need to divide product lines (founder’s essential and new luxury) into two viable, skincare companies. Headed transition team, working with executive and legal teams to formulate an equitable division plan, execution strategy, project management and re-launch of two new brand/companies. Continued as Chief Digital Strategist pre-transition, during transition and post transition.
Enjoyed a year-long sabbatical post Marie Veronique Organics’ division (into Marie Veronique Advanced and True Nature Botanicals). Jumping head first into 2017 co-founded endeavors and a huge panoramic vision pivot–closed marketing agency doors, for good.
